About the project

Subject: Creating an experience for schools

Sky wanted to create a space within their new HQ dedicated to getting school children excited about the world of entertainment and what Sky had to offer.

Schools have strict rules about the educational nature of school visits, the time spent getting to and staying at the visit and also budget.

Therefore close collaboration with the National Schools Project was essential to ensure that I came up with a program that could meet the curriculum and deliver key life skills (whilst promoting Sky).

The Sky Skills Studio

Dividing the class into teams and the subdividing by roles and creating tours specific to those roles, allowed for a manageable tour of the studio.

These tours culminated in the Skills Studio, where the teams where charged with creating a mini documentary/report using bespoke facilities and software. Again, working with the NSP and focus groups from local schools, I was able to lead these design phases from interior,  furniture, lighting and user interfaces.

  • Five course modules designed to cover National Key Stage requirements
  • Design of Tour itinerary and additional decor
  • Four bespoke studios created around central viewing arena
  • Simple drag and drop timeline based editing, filming and asset library software developed with Engage
  • Multi-award winning facility

Conclusion

The Sky Skills Studio tour is now in its fifth year and is still mainly based  on the original design and strategy I developed for RPM.

It has won many awards and is something (along with the team I worked with) that I am truly proud of.
